What would we do without ASSISTANTS!!!!!......

Assistants... or as I refer to them as personal managers!!

I am well aware of the fact that not everyone or every job needs or requires assistants.  I personally need and require one!  The Salon business is known for  young stylists ,just out of school ,that start working as assistants first.   WHY?...because the Salon culture is very different to work in without gaining the guidance of an experienced stylist.   It's a very hard ,non glamorous work, but it pays off in the long run.   Glamour has to be earned!
We train them for a year or so ,use them abuse them, and then hope they never leave us. They are the essential part of a well working Salon.
They become part of our family and  we want to see them thrive in whatever their passions might be.

So... to Kristen (top rt. photo) assistant to Sayoko, and Katie (lower lft.photo) assistant to Dori....We APPRECIATE  and LOVE you guys!!!!!   Great job,and all our clients ADORE you too!!!

Hopefully, those of you that have or work with assistants....teach them well and thank them often.

Best Friends as Business Partners???

Would you go into business with your best friend?...Well,I did.
We opened our first salon in 1996,second salon in 2007,and third business in 2010.So....are we still BFFs ? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best friends  in business can be a problem if  the main objective is not insinq with both partners. Personal goals can vary, and how to achieve these individual quests while maintaining focus on the Partnership and business is like walking a fine line.
Plan thoroughly, and never lose sight of  your main goal. Know each others strengths, put the energy towards utilizing those strengths on the business plan, then in action.
That is why best friends have the upper hand as "BIZ FRIENDS". Alot of the reason friendships last is the acceptance of ones character, "The Good,The Bad,..and the Fabulous"! It all goes into the mix,so why would you expect a different outcome once you're in business? Therefore don't!...,Just expect what you have known, and then grow together in the unknown of what may be around the corner.....Then go to Happy Hour!

What inspires your own personal style....????

INSPIRATION...."a divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul" (Theology reference)

I personally would have added,"the minds, souls, nails and toes!!!!
Ok,in the salon world that is very, very true, and yes my nails are of the Zebra persuasion, and my toes,a glittering varietal of AquaBlue!

I enjoy these colorful additions, and am "inspired" by sooooo many different elements that I come across. One thing is for sure, everywhere I
go,I receive complements on the"pattern of choice"on my nails, which I change every 2 weeks. It is amazing how much Zebra really goes with just about everything! It kinda shakes up the ensemble, and when your toes have some bling aspect to them, every pair of sandals or peep toe heels just look more luxurious....Plus....it just makes me HAPPY!

So,I say "Cheers,Salute`,and Nostrovia",to whatever inspires you!!!!

Do you view the world with "Rose"colored glasses..."Purple"..."Blue"...???

Sometimes how we view the world is often times how we view ourselves,
it can be detected by the choice of colors one surrounds themselves with. These small or bold statements can be a reflection of the"" mood of the day","mood of the season"or"mood of your being".
Color of our clothing can send a direct message to others(unknowingly) of what you are feeling at that time, how you utilize color in your interior design is more of an overall impression of how you see yourself......even the color of your car will give away some secret about you!(not to mention the type of vehicle)
So what color do you see the world thru?Maybe, just maybe, you will be suprised when you take a good look around if it is the answer that goes
to the question..."How do you view yourself?".....If you like what you discover...FABULOUS!...if you do not...then start incorporating different colors into your life until you do!

When I consult with clients concerning their hair color ,most of the time they start the conversation with I am feeling like.....hmmmm...what MOOD am I in....the discussion begins.Oh, by the way, there are no "bad "colors-everything in moderation is "good"and (FYI- Bling can be very uplifting,!!)

One last thought, instead of "stop and smell the roses" lets wear them instead!(people will stop to,well,"smell" you...ok...they will at least smile at you!)

P.S. How do you think these beautiful, colorful, girls view their world???But I know that people view them with a thought of "I wish I was more ______",....more what? What "more"out of life do you want????

Tweens...they are EVERYWHERE ...and they are watching you!

There is an epidemic on the rise, and it has a name...The Tween.Recent studies have shown that in their natural habitat they tend to congregate in groups of 3,although,there have been reports of up to 9+ in some communities.Now...we love these little fashionistas...but I must warn you, they are everywhere, and they are watching you.....I first became aware of this years ago in the salon.A pair of eyes and ears peering around a corner studying how we're styling the clients, discussing all the latest trends, the hottest accessories for your hair, clothes, shoes, bags etc...And then another one appears, then another...We welcome them over, due to their overwhelming interest, answer their very detailed questions, and then when they leave, discuss how darling they were, and how they reminded us of how we were at that age...All this is fine you might say,so what's the problem?...Well just as my clients and myself are fully loving the newest, hottest trends, and after investing lots of money on the fun, funky additions,"IT" happens...the explosion on the Tween Scene...(whether the real deal,or those fabulous fakes)...and that means it's time to move on to something new.You simply can't be chic sporting what a billion 10 to 12 year olds are wearing and claiming to be "their"style. This saddens me sometimes because I'm not always wanting to give up certain trends due to their takeover...So...the new plan is...Always and I mean Always, know your style and what looks best on you(or seek help from a professional),add the newest trends in moderation and be clever with which accessory is "fun, funky, and hot"...Do not overload!...Then you will not have to give up anything you really love...and Never and I mean Never ask a Tween if what you're wearing is too young for you...They should be asking your advice, let them watch and learn, not dictate your fashion trend...or have they already?

Are secret confessions safe with your stylist?

Well....first, let me tell you, just when I think I'v heard it"ALL" I hear another shocker!!...second,it's hard to shock me. My clients trust that I can handle the information, advise them if need be,or listen to their story and not judge them. I take this position very seriously, for it comes with being a successful stylist. Sometimes I feel that clients need a safe place for their secrets, almost as much as they need the salon services that I provide. So...when the story is way to good not to repeat,we change the names to protect them!(the stylist code of ethics). Most of the time, there is a message we can learn from when someone tells an unfiltered, personal, human truth. The emotions can range from laughing so hard your face hurts,to the core of your soul in deep sorrow. For this,I thank them immensely...now,if you have a good relationship with your stylist, feel free to share your thoughts, you'll leave looking fabulous and hopefully feeling like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders!(and I don't mean because your hair was textured). All I have to do is figure out how I'm going to pay for my young assistants therapy for what she keeps hearing!!!
